Don’t miss The Sherry Dixon Show this Sunday 12-3pm when Sherry will be joined by Rhoda Wilson.
Sherry will also be discussing the topic: How many lovers is ‘too many’…?

Society’s attitudes towards casual relationships have changed in the past few years.
Programmes such as ‘Sex and the City’ have enjoyed phenomenal success, showing that woman should no longer have to feel embarrassed or even ashamed to ask for what they really want. But how many lovers is ‘too many’? Fans of the show will be familiar with the character Samantha Jones, a forty-something blonde bombshell in PR who works hard and ‘plays’ even harder! Known for her numerous sexual encounters, she was once unable to recall all the partners she had been with when quizzed.
Although it can be said that supposed promiscuity is now considered ‘the norm’, there will always be a double standard as far as men and women are concerned. The number of lovers that makes a man a ’stud’ can have a woman labelled as something else entirely. A woman’s actions in these circumstances will often be questioned. Has she low self esteem? Is she hoping that it will bring love? Perhaps even more shockingly, she just wants to have a good time. Are we ready to fully accept this? Tune in and have your say!

LISTEN AGAIN - Sherry Dixon chats with Shirley Jones Sunday July 18th - 12-3pm

Don’t miss The Sherry Dixon Show this Sunday 12-3pm when Sherry will be chatting with Jones Girls legend Shirley Jones.
Sherry will also be talking with Carol Glen and Lesley Sackey about women in touch sports. Make sure you’re tuned into BANG 103.6FM

About Shirley Jones

jones-girls-lead1

In 1979 The Jones Girls “You Gonna Make Me Love Somebody Else” showed Gamble and Huff still had the magic touch. The classic went top ten on Billboards’ R&B and Disco Charts. However, lead singer Shirley Jones and sisters Brenda and Valorie were not new to the game. Gospel singer Mary Frazier Jones groomed her daughters’ unique harmonies when they were babies in their hometown Detroit. By the time Shirley and her sisters signed with Philadelphia International Records, they were teenage veterans.
The Jones Girls traveled the world for several years as fellow Detroiter Diana Ross’ back up singers. Ms. Ross even let the girls shine with their own spot where they sang “If I Ever Lose This Heaven”. Diana Ross told Gamble and Huff The Jones Girls were too good to be anybody’s back-up singers forever. Those Philly years provided Shirley and her sisters with a string of hits. They include “Who Can I Run To”, “I Just Love The Man”, “Dance Turned Into A Romance” and their Grammy-Nominated classic “Nights Over Egypt”. After a brief unsuccessful stay at RCA Records , The Jones Girls decided to take a hiatus. Brenda got married and Valorie entered college. But Shirley still wanted to sing. She returned to Philadelphia International Records in 1985 as a solo artist.
Shirley’s 1986 Debut album “Always In The Mood” proved she could handle the spotlight alone. Her 1986 classic “Do You Get Enough Love” stayed number one on Billboards R&B Chart for Three weeks!!! “Do You Get Enough Love” proved to be prophetic. Shirley married and started a new career raising her son Cameron. He is now 18 and over 6’6” tall. He is a freshman in college on a basketball scholarship. Shirley recently performed in Pontiac, Michigan with Glenn Jones and in Chicago with Jean Carne, Angela Winbush and Cherrelle for a terrific “Ladies Night Out” Concert which is available on DVD.

The recession is still in full swing. The harsh reality is that for some, desperate times such as these, call for very desperate measures. Seeking out ways to make fast cash, we are often drawn into hair-brained schemes and scams that appear too good to be true, and usually are. And the discussion this week….

Black Boys and the Mentoring Myth…..

About David McQueen

david-mcqueenDavid McQueen is an international speaker empowering adults and youth alike on subjects such as leadership, careers and communication skills.
As an introduction to his blog he writes:
‘This is my space where I get to share my thoughts on work, play, faith and life. A personal space where I talk about those things that mean much to me….’

The following statement made on his Facebook page sparked heated debate, and is the basis of the discussion on this weeks show:
I think we in the Afro community miss a big trick when we think that only black men are the only ones to mentor black boys. There is a certain dynamic that comes from male mentorship but I think we should widen the pool to include any man capable of good leadership.

About Fredi Kruga and Fathers Together

fatherstogether-banner

The aim of fatherstogether.com is to drastically improve the well-being of children by encouraging and inspiring men to become more effectively involved in the lives of their children. We aim to highlight the plight of men who through no fault of their own are unable to be fathers to their own children. Some dad’s are role models within their community, yet to children other than their own.
Paradoxically, be it due to a messy break up or to the idiosyncrasies of the legal system, many men who have done and do all that is in their power to be the positive role model in their child’s life do not have the opportunity to spend time with and bond with their children.
On 12th December 2009 fathers together walked 12miles from GOSH to the Windmill pub in Clapham South which is in the borough of Wandsworth, as childrens favourite character’s ie Spiderman, Harry Potter, Power Rangers, Teletubbies.
