Micall Parkinsun on the Iron Rap Show with Iron Braydz this Saturday 6-8pm on BANG 103.6FM
Micall Parknsun is a complex man, married to his beloved wife Miranda and the father of five year old Caleb he is a hip hop fiend and with his family, it is one of the few certainties in his life. Micall Parknsun has been working as an emcee and producer for many years now, but has comparitively few releases out there to his name. The history starts in North West London where he formed two halves. The duo worked over the following years on many tracks, the most notable being “Freedom Fighterz” which featured Klashnekoff, Kyza and Jehst and was produced by Parke (this got extensive airplay by Excalibuh on 1Xtra and was on the Answers mixtape) During this time an allegiance was formed with Kyza of Terra Firma notoriety as the North West Collabo (and that foundation is represented on the track “Saltfish & Aggee” on “The Working Class Dad”). The partnership of Two Halves drew to a close in 2003 and amid this change and uncertainty Parke nearly gave up on music. This doubtful period was thankfully shortlived and after a meeting with LG (Parky had known LG for many years through a joint link, MC Wildeye who was part of the now disbanded Buttacuts crew) it was decided that a single would be released by him featuring the tracks “Tha S***!” and “Da Struggle”. This dropped in July 2004 (catalogue number STR004) and received excellent press (No. 1 in HHC’s Homestyles chart) and the best radio coverage experienced by a Sit Tight Records release (Especially from Donna Legge and Zane Lowe on Radio 1, not forgetting the solid support from Excalibuh, Dan Greenpeace, Skully, MK and Rodney P & Skitz) This cemented the relationship between Micall Parknsun and Sit Tight Records and the label saw their first album start to materialise through the work that Parke and LG created. From here the pace quickened.
Parke’s relationship developed with Jehst and as well as providing regular tour support (including spots at the Jazz Cafe and supporting Goldie Looking Chain in Brighton) they recorded a glut of tracks together. One of these is featured on “The Working Class Dad” and “The Guns of Navarone” shows the chemistry the two artists spark. It also hints at a future project (LXG - watch this space!) The principal partnership though is with Dubbledge. Though new to the scene right now (the 12″ Smile is out on Dented Records right now), the two emcees combine on the LP on “Hungry” and “Combo” and they sound heavy! Other artists strongly linked to Micall Parknsun is Wordsmith (see the Sit Tight release STR005 - “Life after the Apocalypse” and his verse on “Saltfish and Aggee” from this LP) the producer Beat Butcher (responsible for “I don’t wanna stay here” and “Hidden Heavenz” featured) and Terra Firma (Kyza and Skriblah Dangogh also appear on “Saltfish and Aggee” and Parke produced the Skriblah track “The Inevitable” from the Sit Tight single STR003) His influences range far and wide.
It was the Golden Era of East Coast hip hop from late Eighties to Mid Nineties that gave him the hunger for hip hop culture (notably Diamond D, Main Source, Pete Rock & CL Smooth). As time progressed his principal influences have been his peers (Kyza, Klashnekoff, Jehst, Wordsmith and now Dubbledge) producers like 9th Wonder, Jay Dee (R.I.P) and Madlib, artists like MF DOOM, De La Soul, Ghostface Killah, The Roots - the list goes on to artists like Kano making big noise right now. As a producer and beat maker, Parke has embraced Soul, Jazz and all manner of musical styles while digging for samples. “Julia” by the Ramsey Lewis Trio rates as one of his favourite compositions out there. The man is a music lover, hungry to hear new sounds all the time.

Don’t miss Spin Doctor on the Iron Rap Show this Saturday 6pm-8pm on BANG 103.6FM
For those that don’t know, Jay Dilla was the man behind Janet Jacksons hit single “Don’t Know What You Got Till It’s Gone”, Erykah Badu’s “On and On” and The Pharcyde’s “Running”. He’s also worked with the likes of Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Bustah Rhyme, Brand New Heavies and Common to name a lot, but not even half!!
This Saturday, the Iron Rap Show will be taking you on a ride through the musical world of Jay Dilla (R.I.P).
Spin Doctor (On the Real, Doctors Orders) is firstly a massive fan of J-Dilla and is the driving force behind The Doctor’s Orders promotions, so there was no way this event was not going to happen every year to celebrate the memory of his favourite producer. It is his passion for Dilla’s work that has guaranteed that it is the not to be missed! This year he goes further by introducing a J-Dilla tribute night at The Doctor’s Orders Brighton and a special Dilla edition of his popular Hip-Hop Pub Quiz.
