Unlike other major labels in the D&B scene, Metalheadz hasn’t hosted a regular rave in London (or rather, anywhere else!) since the Bluenote days. After hosting a night at the end of 2009, Goldie and the crew are back this Saturday 13th March and with a stinking line-up too! Accompanying the standard exceptional Metalheadz crew; Goldie, Bailey, Ed Rush and S.P.Y will be Mr. Andy C fresh from winning Best DJ at this year’s National Drum & Bass Awards…with a line-up as serious as this, this is a night you don’t want to miss!

Catch the American Rap Show with Superstar Jay every Tuesday 12-2am

superstar-jay-mainNew York City, “The Mecca of Hip Hop,” is known for its influence on Hip Hop culture – record labels, radio stations, clubs, and mixtape spots are as common as supermarkets and laundromats. But to be an influential DJ in New York City, it takes a certain type of “tastemaker”: one who can find balance between the radio, the clubs, and the streets, and not sleeping until you dominate the scene. It takes, well, a superstar. And for James “Superstar Jay” Hamilton, regardless of what role he might play (top Mixtape DJ, “A&R to the streets,” Club & Radio DJ), his influence on the industry is unquestioned, and his presence will be at the top of the NYC Hip Hop scene for many years to come.

Jay was inspired from a young age to make an impact on the entertainment world, and found his inspiration growing up in Jamaica, Queens. The neighborhood is infamous for birthing countless talents in both the Hip Hop world (Run DMC, A Tribe Called Quest, 50 Cent, G-Unit, Ja Rule, Lost Boyz) and the NBA (Lamar Odom, Rafer “Skip To My Lou” Alston). At the age of 12, he was already learning from some of the top Hip Hop DJs, including the likes of DJ Clue, DJ Kid Capri, and DJ Ron G. But he was also cultivating his skills on the basketball court, and he earned himself a full sports scholarship to Buffalo State College in upstate New York. While at Buffalo State, he decided to turn his full attention to DJ’ing, and found success with his radio show “Midnight Run Mixtape” on WBNY 91.3FM. Jay soon became one of the top radio & club DJs in Western New York, dominating the scene in cities like Buffalo & Rochester. Jay took that momentum back to New York City to become the “Superstar” he is today…and he hasn’t looked back since!

Superstar Jay’s ability to put out consistent quality product is unmatched, and the industry was quick to take notice. In 2006, he was nominated five times (a record) at the Justo’s Mixtape Awards, and took home the coveted “Rookie Of The Year” award in 2006. Past winners of the award include 106 & Park’s DJ L and DJ Big Mike, and countless other top urban DJs have made their mark after winning a “Justo,” including DJ Clue, DJ Kay Slay, DJ Drama, and DJ Whoo Kid. Later that year, Superstar Jay was recognized by MTV as the “Breakthrough DJ of the Year” for his constant pressure on the music industry. His appearances on MTV’s “Direct Effect,” BET’s “Rap City,” and New York City’s Power 105.1FM only solidify his position as “a legend in the making” (source: SOHH).

The Superstar Jay “cosign” in considered by many to be a gateway to the streets of New York City, and it shows in his web presence on Google (140,000+ hits) and mixtape destination DatPiff (180 mixtapes, 500,000+ listens, 100,000+ downloads). Jay has released upwards of 1000 mixtapes in his career, and sold an estimated 100,000 “in the streets.” He has worked with countless top Hip Hop acts coming out of New York City, including the likes of the entire G-Unit team (50 Cent, Tony Yayo, & Lloyd Banks), Busta Rhymes,Maino, Jim Jones, Prodigy (of Mobb Deep), Stack Bundles, and Ali Vegas. Jay is also no stranger to controversy, as he was the DJ behind Remy Ma’s “Shesus Khryst” during her rift with Fat Joe, as well as Gillie Da Kid’s “The Truth Hurts” where he addressed ghostwriting for Lil’ Wayne. But Jay also takes pride in breaking talented artists, and has helped take artists like Roccett, Sha Stimuli, Fred Da Godson, Lexx 9Eleven, Clap Cognac and Storm P to the next level.

Superstar Jay is a prominent member of Da Union DJs alongside DJs Self, Norie, Will, Big Kap, and more. He is also a member of the Justo’s Mixtape Awards-winning Noize Mob DJs team, along with DJs such as Chuck T, Lazy K, and Brucie B. NBA champion and fellow Jamaica, Queens representative Lamar Odom recognized Jay’s power moves and made him the flagship DJ for Odom’s music imprint Rich Soil Records. You can now hear Jay every Friday night at 9PM in London UK (4PM EST/1PM PST) on Bang Radio 103.6FM.

Join Dr. Psycho this Wednesday on the Breakfast Surgery as he talks live to Donaeo, 7am till 10am on BANG 103.6FM

donaeo-pic-main1Donae’o aka Ian Greenidge was always destined to make a career out of music after growing up in a house where melodies were a major force. His mother was a singer and as a youngster growing up in north west London it was common place for her to be heard belting out tunes in the house. A young Donae’o was also a regular companion when she was out performing and loved soaking up the atmosphere. In fact you could say this is where he felt most at home.

His was never a story of numerous talents shows and performing in school plays, but by the time he was in his mid teens he had already attracted a management outfit, and released a single Falling’. During his teens Donae’o (which means ‘Gift from God’) would release and re-release a few singles, most notably Falling and Bounce under various management outfits. Both singles made an impact on the underground, with Bounce winning an award for Best Live P.A at the People’ Choice Awards in 2003. All of this set the foundations for Donae’o’s future success. ‘Both of these songs kick-started my career,’ says the now 25-year-old. In his late teens and early 20’s he released a few more underground singles, but was mainly out of the spotlight as he focused on working on a plan to orchestrate the next stage of his career.

The plan? To take control of his career himself, minus any management. He had penned a tune called Devil In A Blue Dress, and this was the one he felt could really turn things around, and he was right.
