BANG’s Got Talent event review

Hi, my name is Ryan Eastmond from South Kilburn. I am a young inspired producer working towards improving my production skills. I’m also a member of BANG’s Youth Group. I help to organise and run events for other young people in the local area. One of these events was BANG’S Got Talent. This took place on Wed 26th May at Barham Park Lounge in Wembley. It was a youth talent competition put on by BANG103.6FM to showcase the creative talents of the young people we work with. My role for Bang’s Got Talent was assisting the event manager, Lynnike. I felt privileged to have position like that. I enjoyed it and hope in the future I will be assigned the same role.
Anyways…. Let’s get to the juicy bit… The actual event…
I think the event ran very smoothly. We had a huge turn out of young people. It was raaaaaam in there. The event was hosted by Sefa (one half of the crazy girls of BANG) and Blaze (Breakfast Banquet on BANG).There were over 15 competitors who had to battle it out to win the much desired prize of £100 in vouchers (of their choice), their track playlisted on BANG103.6FM, a radio interview on a prime time show and a feature on this website. We had singers, rappers and beat boxers too!!
(The hosts- Sefa & Blaze)
There were a lot of favourites on the day, including the sick Kidtazstik (13year old MC), beatboxers, Swave (from Harrow) and Jamie (who came all the way from Kent by the way), Rochester (a siiiick rapper), Rhys (Singer), JK, a very charismatic rapper who came down from South London. There were actually too many acts to mention, but shouts out to all who performed! Some acts were mind blowing! It was EMOSHH!!
(Kidtazstik-Emcee)
(Rochester- Rapper)
(Jamie-Beat Boxer)
As well as impressing the audience, all of the performers had to impress the judges too! After all, it was these guys who chose the eventual winner. The judges were Sticky (Producer), King Caztro (DJ from BANG), Baby Blue (Female Rapper) and Ny (R&B Singer). They gave each contestant constructive feedback after they had finished performing.
(Left to right: King Caztro, Sticky, Ny, Baby Blue)
We even had some special guests come down to the event to show support for the young people and for what BANG do. They included Big Man Zest (who performed Jump In the middle and skank), Egypt (who performed In the morning) and the fiiiiiiiiine Lioness also performed. For those who don’t know, Lioness is a female rapper. I’m sorry but it has to be said, as lioness stood there on stage (looking MIGHTY FIIIIIINE might I add) everyone presumed she was going to sing, then DJ Policy spun on a dirty instrumental and out came these incredible bars. My head spun round towards the stage with shock. She absolutely destroyed it!
(Zest)
(Egypt)
(Lioness)
In the end, after much debating, the judges chose a guy called Rhys as the winner! He sang a cover of Omarion’s track, O and blew everyone away. They were torn between him and JK, the rapper from South London, who performed his own track called WOW, but they had to make a final decision after seeing them go head to head for a final time. Congratulations to both acts because they were both very talented!!
(JK…. He literally wowed judges with his character and stage presence)
(Rhys- The winner!!!)
All in all everybody had a good time. Near the end, everybody became extremely gassed especially the BANG Youth Group (Dont watch me on the end getting down). DJ Policy (Sho Patrol) went in with a wave of rave bangers!
Everyone was skankin HARRD!!
(Members of BANG’s Youth Group- Kidtazstik, Amber, Raven, Lashan & me)
(Security man, Minal- Our Training manager and Liu- Youth Group member)
Hold tight for the next youth event from BANG103.6FM!!!

Industry Scoop event review
April 23, 2010 by Lynnike & Sefa
Filed under BANG Youth, Blogs, Events, Headlines
The big day that all of the BANG youth group had been looking forward to finally arrived on Sat 3rd April 2010. The event was called Industry Scoop, a media and music seminar and showcase for all creative young people.
People started arriving bang on 1 o’clock and within 10 minutes there were already loads of eager people waiting to sign up to BANG’s various training activities.
Some members of the youth group, mentioning no names (Jonathan) were rather excited to see Princess Nyah and Kele Le Roc arrive. G frsh arrived shortly after, followed by the rest of the panel members including Benny Scars, Ace, Garbz and E-Plus.
When everyone got settled in, the event host, Blaze began explaining what the event was about and the panel introduced themselves.
Ace has been with 1xtra for 7 years, at school he studied performing arts which later in life lead him on to win a Sony gold award.
He has successfully had shows on both channel U and MTV base.
G frsh was a straight A student and studied economics, until one day he was bored in a lecture and randomly tried out music. G Frsh Started off behind the scenes of the music industry and then decided to write something and put out a CD to recieve feedback. He got mixed reviews about his CD but he didn’t let that stop him. His words of wisdom for us all were..
“You need a back up plan because you will always have something to fall back on, so it will make you feel more comfortable”.
Princess Nyah told us how she came from an emcee brackground. She worked full time in footlocker and was first in a group called G fam. Her first single “Frontline” just happened to be an accident. She told all talented musicians to…
“Team up with people who give you constructive critism, don’t let your friends build your ego.’ I strongly agree with this!”
Benny Scarrs (Tinchy Stryder’s A&R) studied music production and engineering. He says that networking is the best way to get recognized. He worked with the Jump Off street team and he started off believing that he didn’t have a chance in a record label but he then got into Universal. He was working with Universal for 4 months unpaid. He explained how he started at the bottom of the food chain, mainly making tea for people. That was not his ideal job but he loved the environment. He started Doing a few remixes for people, for really cheap and shortly after he was introduced to Tinchy Stryder and everything progressed from Tinchy’s single, Stryder Man.
Garbz, the producer on the panel learned to play the drums at 11, He played bass at 16 and at the age of 19 he started making un-official remixes. This has lead to over 100 remixes in America. He also Lived in L.A for 18 months.
Kele Le Roc started singing and dancing at 3, Originally she wanted to be a dancer but at 12 she encountered a knee problem from ballet and then decided to branch out to music.
E Plus spoke about his role of being an artist manager and promotor.
He told us about how he randomly fell into management and how he first started to work with Basement Jaxx.
After the panel introduced themselves, Blaze took questions from the audience and posed them to the panel. Kele Le Roc gave a brilliant performance of her current single, That Rhythm and a funky mix of old school favorite, My Love. She had everyone skanking out, especially Jonathan and Davina!
Two young people from BANG’s youth group performed in front of the panel. The first performance was from a 13 year old emcee/lyricist/songwriter by the name of Kidtazstik who performed an acapella of a verse and a chorus from her latest song, Real Merkage.
The second performance was from a 16 year old singer/ songwriter by the name of Amber who sang a cover of a song from the movie Dream Girls.
The Panel were left amazed and were all eager to hear Kidtazstik’s track with a beat and one of Amber’s own songs as they could tell she was a great singer, but just wanted to hear some of her own material.
The final part of the day, the group split into 5 groups:- Emcee’s, Singers, Artist Managers, Producers and DJ’s. Each member of the panel lead a group, answering questions and giving top tips on how to perfect your talent.
All in all, Industry Scoop was a lot of fun. I didn’t realize how many talented, undiscovered emcee’s there actually were until that day!
