Joel CULPEPPER
Joel is the quintessential backpacker, headphones in the ears, sitting at the back of the class, At 18, the South East London based singer-songwriter’s musical journey took him to New York and back, generating major label interest in the process.
Now at 25, with a developed sound and an impressive catalogue of songs, he is creating a stir on the UK’s live scene with his cutting edge performances. Like many great performers before him, he writes his own songs, sings and dances. His amazing band, aptly called, ‘The Transformers’ provide the musical backdrop for his shows. They live up to their namesake because each musician plays another instrument and changes over or ‘transforms’ during Joel’s dynamic live sets.
Some say he is reminiscent of UK legend Omar and more recently John Legend with his ability to connect with an audience. He delivers high-energy live shows, filled with signature catchy songs, heartfelt vocals, dance moves and intuitive interaction with his band, which leave a lasting impression on audiences. Joel Culpepper’s high profile gigs include…
Hard Rock Cafe, The watershed, Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, Sound (Leicester Sq), Pigalle club (Piccadilly). His recently released Mixtape, The Adventures of Pensmith, showcases Joel’s strong song writing skills and quirky vocal style. Joel is currently working on a new Mixtape, ‘I love Ginger Beer’, due for release ahead of his debut album, ‘Asleep in the Staffroom’.

A Bit About Andy Jay & S Tee
Andy J & S-Tee are a pioneering Dj / Production team for UK Funky based in North England they started on the UK Funky road in early 2007, when it was still a growing scene, by being outside London they thought it would be an ideal opportunity to develop the sound to a broader based audience.
The Real Mr Smith
The Real Mr Smith is a talented singer and songwriter who has had success working alongside renowned artists in the UK mainstream such as Tinchy Stryder and Donaeo. His debut single ‘Best Friend’ has been described as an imaginative punk-rock influenced number. With the UK music scene constantly evolving this track has set the bar high and will prove a tough act to follow…

Spike Lee is doing a film that will include the BP disaster. The gov. is considering criminal charges. The 5th Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina is coming up. Remember when I wrote about that. Of course you don’t.
According to Bossip.com, Mike Epps ran out of gas in Southern Cali. He pushes a Benz 600. NICE.
RIP! Temptations singer Ali-Ollie Woodson dies at 58. Is he the “third” since we lost Gary Coleman and Dennis Hopper? Speaking of…Gary Coleman’s funeral will be this weekend in Utah. His parents will be there.
Rumor has it Celebrity Rehab has been canceled. Bizzy Bone wasn’t a big enough star? Guess not.
Antonie Fuqua will get it poppin’ in September on the first biopic on Tupac Shakur.
Lady GaGa told Larry King that she was going to open for Michael Jackson before he died.
Fat Joe has gotten his wig pushed back to July 1
Drake’s supposedly got a baby on the way. Yeah. Uh Huh.
SIGNS THE WORLD IS COMING TO AN END
A huge sink hole opened up in Guatemala! What in the world happened? The scientists say this was caused by tropical storms, but I don’t believe that for one second. In fact, that thing looks like it goes all the way to Hell itself. They say the flooding is really what did it. Again…not a believer.
Nas Says “Lost Tapes” Volumes 2 & 3 Is Possible
In a recent interview with radio host, Bootleg Kev at Las Vegas’ Hot 97.5 FM, Nas was asked why his fan-lauded 2002 release The Lost Tapes was never followed up, despite initial reports. “I do got a lot of songs that really didn’t make no album, that’s just sittin’ around [or] got lost,” revealed the Queensbridge veteran. “So I’ve got enough actually, for a Lost Tapes 2 and 3 by now. So I’ve just got to set it up, put them together - 12 songs for one album, 12 songs for another album, and figure it out. That’s all it takes.”
The first volume featured 12 tracks, which featured production from The Alchemist, Trackmasters, L.E.S. and an early collaboration with Kanye West on “Poppa Was A Playa.”
In Nas’ trademark uncertainty, he closed his answer in saying, “Definitely, you might — I hope you see a Lost Tapes 2 and 3.”
In the interview, Nas also said that he was not really performing catalog songs from his Illmatic debut on his ongoing Distant Relatives tour.
Shook Ones………. Havok Speaks..
“Here’s my problem, now Jay-Z killed it, killed the game, he could do that and if somebody was in that same position, I feel they could do it,” Hav explained in an interview with DJ Vlad. “But if you haven’t already gotten on and you past 30, then I think you should [stop]. That’s my opinion and not to kill anybody’s dreams that’s trying because it’s just my opinion — it’s in my strong opinion that if you haven’t gotten on by the time that you’re 30 and you’re past your 30’s, try something else. And especially if you don’t have any money. Because then you’re wasting time. And there’s probably a million motherf*ckers 30 and past it that could prove me wrong, but I’m just saying in my strong opinion.”
I hear it all the time — ‘Yo, he should let the young guys, the new generation of guys come in,’” Jay explained in an interview. “But you don’t become the front-runner in music because someone lets you. You have to claim your shoes…If you grow up listening to hip-hop, you love hip-hop and that’s the end of it. But if you’re a 30 year-old rapper still trying to make music like you’re 15, then you’re making it narrow. At my age, I can’t relate to a 15 year-old. I deal with mature and relevant topics for my age group — it has to all be based on true emotions. The more diversity and the more mature we make hip-hop, the bigger the net you cast.”
Jim Jones waves good-bye to Max B publishing rights, no longer controls rapper’s career
Despite being behind bars Max B recently got a reason to celebrate. Yesterday (May 26) a judge ruled that Jim Jones no longer has any rights over the incarcerated rapper or his work, making way for his long-awaited album, Vigilante Season, to drop on indie Amalgam Digital. Reps for label told XXL that the judge ruled the Harlemite has fully performed his obligations under both his 2005 recording contract and 2007 songwriting contract with Jones. Basically that means the Dipset Capo has no claim over any music recordings Max created with Amalgam, including songs used on Vigilante Season
ORTIZ IT IZ……………………
In a story featured in New York City’s the Village Voice, Brooklyn rapper Joell Ortiz touched on a number of topics including gentrification in Brooklyn, his place in today’s Hip Hop market, and more.
For years now Brooklyn has become one of many areas in New York City that have become notorious for its heavy gentrification.
“My area was really drug-infested ’cause across from us was a shelter with a lot of drug addicts—the drugs bring the money, and the money leads to violence,” said Ortiz on his former home of Greenpoint, Brooklyn. “Now, it’s ridiculous. They brought in the hipsters, brought in the yuppies, and built up the big condos that no one in my ‘hood can afford
Game time!!……..Game Says He Doesn’t Believe In Promoting New Album
If Compton rapper The Game had his way there would be no promotion for his upcoming album R.E.D. Instead, Game believes that after three albums fans of his should know when to look out for his fourth project.
“I’m not into promoting. I give you a date, and if you’re a Game fan, then you’ll get the album,” Game explained to Reuters. “I don’t sell myself. This is my fourth album. I don’t think I need to do all that.”
Although Game doesn’t believe in promoting, his product manager Andrew Flad thinks very differently. In fact, Game will soon begin a promotional tour that includes several stops in Europe and more.
“Sending Game out to touch the fans this way is a must and always helps,” Flad shared. “He will grind it out, he will do the work, and he will love it.”
On top of traveling to Europe for promotional visits Game will also pay a visit to BET’s 106 & Park, appear on a Geek Out Session with AOL, and visit various cities in the United States to promote the album.
R.E.D. will be released on July 6 on Interscope Records
Nikki Has A Problem……..Keys: Nicki Minaj’s Nemesis Explains Herself
Armed with a vicious flow and an even more ferocious attitude, 20-year-old newcomer Keyona Turner aka Keys aka The Problem aka The Beast isn’t playing around. Keys burst onto the scene after posting a diss video on YouTube against Hip Hop’s newest female go-to-girl, Nicki Minaj. To the instrumental of Nicki’s “Itty Bitty Piggy” Keys goes in, “This is not a rap b***h, this is Miley Cyrus. Must be something wrong ‘cause this beat is playing s**t. Now she’s on the second verse and still ain’t saying s**t.”
Keys released her debut mix-tape, “The Infiltration” on May 22nd. There is no doubt that Keys is ready for war. “I’m A Spartan” serves as an ode to all her ride or die fans and further explains her Spartan movement. Songs like “I Am”, “F**k You” and “Hit Em” are your basic gutter go-hard tracks in which Keys attempts to ascertain her place in Hip Hop. With her not so subtle jabs at everyone’s favorite Harajuku Barbie over-top blazing beats, Keys is coming at Hip-Hop with a vengeance, putting together a body of work that shows vehemently displays her talent and immense potential. On “Ether”, Keys takes a page from Nas’s rhyme book, using the historical instrumental to pen a lyrical beat down that would even make the Hip-Hop legend stand up and take notice.
Since Keys blatant and unwarranted attack, Nicki hasn’t exactly responded but she has mentioned that she won’t respond to those who live on “planet bum’’
Oochie Wally… 5 o’clock in the morning…BANG
Heather B Talks Marriage To Horse Of Nas’ Bravehearts
A few years ago, there was a rumor that a woman basically took Nas’ big man and presumed Braveheart bodyguard off the market. Certainly, the rumors aren’t 100% confirmed, but we now know that Horse married rap mistress Heather B, from KRS-One’s Boogie Down Productions. Who knew? Just about nobody. Now Heather, a first generation reality star, now reveals her very private life with a man that once rapped on “Oochie Wally.”
Thts it from me until next time people… Lots of love…. IM OUT!
