Baby Blue is a young artist with a difference. She is not looking for instant glorification or hoping to be relevant just for today, but rather has an aim to sustain longevity.
Blue, as she is affectionately known, started rapping while at school, when friends decided to form a group and needed a female voice. Although she originally wanted to become an actress, being a part of the group inspired her to start writing songs. After being invited to record at Raw Materials studio, Blue recorded a solo track called ‘I Woulda’, which was inspired by her cousin’s gang-related death in the US. The track was given to various DJs and received a great amount of support and airplay.
At the age of 19 she sent her music to successful fellow UK artist Estelle, who immediately invited Blue to New York to record the song ‘Hey Girl’ featuring John Legend, as well as another track for Estelle’s debut album ‘The 18th Day,’ and featured in the video for the hit ‘1980.’ Later that year, Blue released the mixtape ‘Out of the Blue Vol I’ (with Volume II released two years later) which featured Estelle, members of So Solid Crew, Shystie, Sway, and Akala, who were all respected underground artists. Her first solo music video was for the single ‘Sometimes,’ which was released to push Vol II of the mixtape.
Baby Blue, whose name came about because she would sport everything from clothing to contact lenses in the colour baby blue, has a sound that fuses Hip-hop with Grime, R&B and Pop, which creates an international sound for all markets. She intends to create amazing music that stands the test of time worldwide.
The highlight of Blue’s career to date has been working with British legends Madness on their comeback single ‘Sorry’ in 2007, also featuring Sway. Once again she proved to be the special female element needed to make the song a success.
In order to arm herself with the necessary tools needed to survive in the industry, Blue moved to New York City for a year, to learn the business side of music. There, she networked with industry professionals and built up her own work ethic. Part of her learning process saw her tour with Estelle for four months, travelling around the US and Europe to gain further knowledge as well as honing her skills as a songwriter.
Having previously worked with others, such as Ms Dynamite, Kardinal Offishall, and Idris Elba, 2010 will be Blue’s time to shine on her own, with an album slated for release, showcasing an innovative and unique sound. As someone who is described as down-to-earth, and a future entrepreneur who is passionate about music, Baby Blue hopes to make her mark further by collaborating with giants of music - Jay-Z, Nas and the legendary Stevie Wonder. Watch this space!

Don’t miss RD on Drivetime with the Crazy Girls, 4-7pm on BANG 103.6FM
RD (aka Ruff Diamondz) are Chronz, Martika and Troy, three girls from London, ready to fill the gap left in the UK urban scene for a female group.
Their musical style is formed from their own distinctive sound, where they combine classic R&B influences like TLC, 702 and Total with inspiration taken from home grown talent such as N-Dubz, Chipmunk, Wiley & Ghetto. They talk about life experiences from a young female perspective and lean on concepts that hit you with some edge and lyrics that stand out from the usual pop confection.
Despite newly emerging they are already creating a buzz, with top producers lining up to work with them, Dappy describes them as “a breath of fresh air”, Wretch32 “Talented and cute” and by Marvell as “Ard”. RD are building a solid fanbase of fans and peers alike, and are definitely tipped as the next ones to watch.
Their first single, „Alrite Stillll‟ showcases the girls’ talents in singing and Mc-ing, fusing r&b, hip hop and dancehall influences, with a UK flava. Check out the video on AKA where it is being heavily requested on the Free Request show, or check it out on www.youtube.com/rdofficialtv.

Ty Joins Lynnike & Sefa on Drivetime on Thursday 22nd April
As one of the most revolutionary rappers on the British hip-hop scene, Ty embodies the intellect, talent and ferocity of an MC always destined to become a legend. Over the last decade, the Mercury Prize nominee has achieved the rare feat of establishing a legacy through his three albums and wise persona, strengthened by his amazing worldwide shows and countless appearances alongside luminaries such as De La Soul, Tony Allen and Pee Wee Ellis. Musically, he’s also worked with Estelle, Scratch Perverts, Talib Kweli, Black Twang, Arrested Development, Bahamadia and Zion I, both in front and behind the mixing desk, further proof of his relentless artistry and his evolution from roguish wordsmith from South London to an internationally-acclaimed hip-hop connoisseur.
It’s this growth that has made the release of each of Ty’s albums such a distinctive event and the debut of his fourth LP, Special Kind of Fool, will be no exception. Inspired by one of the darkest periods in his life, it’s braced itself for mass appeal, challenging the “death” of hip-hop and resurrecting its existence through provocative rhymes, masterful production and a swaggering sentiment that’ll mark it as one of the greatest albums to drop in 2010. “With this record, I was trying to say I’m fed up of being patted on the back for being different or alternative,” said Ty. “So this is raw hip-hop emotion, and people will see a different side to me. I also wanted to assure people that it’s okay to tell your story through hip hop music, whatever your story.”
Born and bred in South London, Ty’s initial taste of hip-hop came in the form of Slick Rick and Doug E Fresh’s 1985 ground-breaking hit The Show, but it was Break Machine and Cookie Crew that inspired him to pursue the path of a B-Boy. On this journey he mastered breakdancing, learned sound engineering and producing and started to develop the ability to deliver rhymes with a witty ferocity that would lead him to appear on tracks for IG Culture, MC Mell’O and DJ Shortee Blitz in the mid-90s.
Ty’s formative training also included stints at Jonzi D’s Apricot Jam and DJ Pogo’s seminal hip-hop club night The Lyrical Lounge and the obligatory guest spots on remixes before 2001 beckoned, a year which would pave the way for his mighty debut album Awkward on Big Dada. The album introduced the bespectacled craftsman as one of the most innovative British rappers the world had ever seen, and he followed this seminal LP with his 2004 sophomore effort Upward, his biggest selling album to date.
He landed a Mercury Prize nomination the same year, helped by the album’s stand-out lead single Wait A Minute and the rapid growth of his kudos which would earn him a deserved spot on the international stage. His third album, Closer, saw him continue in the same vein of creating truthful hip-hop music in co-production with his regular collaborator Drew Horley, while keeping busy with a relentless touring schedule.
2010 now presents a rapper determined to remedy hip-hop from the facade of pop commercialism, equally keen to steer it towards a promising future. His fourth album is released through BBE Records and features Erik Rico, Roses Gabor, rapper Sway, Carroll Thompson, Terri Walker, Soweto Kinch and Basement Jaxx songstress Vula amongst others. Of his new album, Ty stated: “I want this album to be a time stamp of black music history that is not compromised by the current climate in the UK, and that is welcoming of all backgrounds and cultures without cutting itself into pieces to fit into a box it doesn’t belong in.”

Raw Smilez spoke to Lynnike & Sefa on the Drivetime show on Tuesday 13th April on BANG 103.6 FM
Raw Smilez’ music quest started in 2001 just as a hobby. Initially for fun it quickly evolved into more productive activity with weekly sets on pirate radio stations. Soon enough, Smilez moved on up to Live Linq, an already established music sound which exposed him to shows up and down the country from London to Birmingham, Leicester and Wolverhampton.
Smilez is more recently known for playing an influential part of west London grime outfit, HOT OFF DA BLOCK (HODB) and heavily affiliated with GET MONEY QUICK (G.M.Q)
RAW is about to drop his 3rd mix cd ‘PLAYGROUND POLITICKS’ which will undeniably go on to turn a few heads and get some of the buzz he had in previous years back.. Also working on his 1st album ‘CAKE’N'JUICE which is goin to be produced by one the UK’s top producers.. NUTTY.P (BAKERY, RED’N'PINK, STINKAHBELL)
This guy has promising things ahead of him. Catch him in conversation with the crazy girls, Lynnike & Sefa on Tuesday. He might even drop a hot 16!
