mz-brat-mainHailing from East London and at the tender age of 17, Mz Bratt is already an inspirational figure to many in the world of UK Urban/Dance music and TV.
Billed by many experts as 2009’s one to watch, Mz Bratt has emerged from the current UK Urban scene as the lone female role model within a male dominated arena.
Her exceptional talent struck renowned award-winning urban producer Terror Danjah (Kano, Sway, Chipmunk, Shola Ama) who took her under his wing after hearing her at local MC battles and seeing her huge Myspace following.
This was soon followed the news that Mz Bratt had been selected to be part of the T4 entertainment show ‘Music-Cool’, where she starred as the LEAD female- at one point reducing guest judge Jamelia to tears with her exceptional talent and vocal ability.
Following this Mz Bratt then embarked on a huge US and European tour with Shoreditch cool guys ‘The Count and Sinden’ which included shows at Glastonbury and Bestival.
She has also featured on remixes and records with artists including Wiley, Tinchy Stryder, Taio Cruz, Sadie Ama and Grammy nominated US Star Jazmine Sullivan.
Mz Bratt’s musical taste is diverse and she lists her influences ranging from Lauryn Hill, Beyonce, Coldplay, Method Man, Nas, Lady GaGa, Bob Marley and Michael Jackson.
Another key influence was her father who was MC SCALLYWAG from the late 80’s Acid-House outfit ‘Spiral Tribe’.
This early exposure to music of a liberating nature has certainly contributed to the development of Mz Bratt’s own unique signature electro-fused hip-hop sound.
Her debut release ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’ Is being released through the highly successful label ‘All Around the World’, who have recently seen massive success with label mates N-Dubz who sold over 500,000 Albums.

LISTEN AGAIN - Meleka on The BEST of British Takeover - Bank Holiday Monday 31st May

meleka-mainWinning MTV’s Hugo Urban Rules in 2008, was nothing out of the ordinary for Meleka. “I have been singing all my life, I come from a musical background, a musical household”. With Rick Clarke as her Godfather and Janet Kay and Carol Thompson as close family friends, it was almost a given that the musical gene was bound to appear at some point “I was 6 when I won my first talent show in Willesden Green Library, singing SWV’s ‘Weak’ and I just continued from there”.

In 2008 Meleka competed with 14 other contestants in a two day workshop with industry veterans such as Don-E (Love Makes the World Go Round), Steve Sutherland (MOBO winning Galaxy fm DJ) and Mervyn Lynn (SonyBMG), who advised the hopefuls about the Music Business. Meleka kept her cool as she was picked as a finalist to perform her two songs for the panel of judges. Nervous, but excited she ‘wowed’ the judges with her performance of her soulful Ballad ‘GO’. Picked by GRAMMY award winning Estelle and former Mis-teeq singer Sabrina Washington, Meleka, who is no stranger to the stage, was given an even larger platform to showcase her talent. It was her soaring vocals, self-penned songs and fearless nature that made her the firm favourite for the grand prize at the prestigious urban talent event. “I couldn’t believe Sabrina and Estelle chose me. It was such a privilege.”

As part of her prize, Meleka won the chance to support Estelle (American Boy, Substitute Lover, 1980) at HUGO URBAN RULES’ headline gig in Manchester and release her single ‘Go’ (Now It’s Over Boy)’.
The footage of Meleka winning Hugo Urban Rules was aired on all MTV channels, giving Meleka a taste of what was to come “Being on TV was such a strange feeling. People who I didn’t know would come up to me and congratulate me on winning or say they loved the song, that was probably one of the best feelings about the whole process, as I was able to share my songs, and also having strangers appreciate my hard work was just amazing.”

Since winning, not only has Meleka grown as a person, but she has transformed into an artist collaborating and recording with the eclectic Don-E as well as Basement Jaxx, ‘Oopsy Daisy’ rapper Chipmunk and U.S diva Kelis, to name a few.

But it was her debut single ‘Go (Now It’s Over Boy)’ which really earned her the spotlight. The EP features a Simon Diamond remix with guest vocals from UK
Rapper Tinie Tempah (PASS OUT), as well as the leaders of Funky House, a collective of musicians known as the Crazy Cousinz. Their use of African drum beats and percussion instrumentation combined with Meleka’s emotional vocal performance, turned this once soulful slow jam into a funky club banger that produced the 2009 summer anthem that ` has turned Meleka into a household name.
Having received over 300,000 plays on MySpace and over 1 million views on YouTube (from fans radio rips alone), not including the views she has earned from the music video for ‘Go’ (directed by Ben Jones), Meleka has proven that she is not just any contestant from a TV talent show but that she has the makings of being someone who will be around for a long time.

More recently having collaborated with Flukes (Crazy Cousinz) and Donae’o something special was created… Titled “Miss Me”. Do date has been confirmed for realease, but catch Meleka on her Bang 103.6fm takeover and you may catch her playing it if you have not heard it already

LISTEN AGAIN - Teezy on Friday’s Drivetime with Mr Silk and Bank Holiday Monday’s Best Of British Takeover

Don’t miss Teezy on Friday’s Drivetime with Mr Silk, 4-7pm and on the BEST of BRITISH Special on Bank Holiday Monday, 31st May on BANG 103.6FM

teezy_logo_black-main1

teezy-mainTeezy, also dubbed as the Fresh Prince of Hip Hop, was born Kye Lawrence Hughes on 5th July.

This teen dancing-sensation made tidal waves within the music industry with his smash hit début single, “Take Your Shoes Off” which reached Number 8 in the official RnB charts, released independently in March 2008.

The track was produced by one of the most sought after producers in the UK, Harmony (aka ‘H’ Money) and was arguably one of the biggest songs of 2008, being play-listed up and down the country on many regional radio stations and national TV stations including: MTV Base, Flava, Channel AKA and V:MX. Harmony, who has produced tracks for many successful chart topping artists including, Omarion, Craig David, Jamelia, Marcus Houston, FDM (Fundamental), Lloyd, Kelly Rowland and MIMS. Harmony saw the massive potential in Teezy and was very enthusiastic in collaborating with him on Take Your Shoes Off and other unreleased tracks.

Take Your Shoes Off rocketed Teezy into the hearts of thousands of adoring fans all over Britain and around the world. Remarkably, although Teezy has not released any new material since his follow up track “Tootsie Roll” in 2009, which was another successful release – he still holds the adoration of his female fans to this day.

At the tender age of 9 years old, while attending the prestigious Sylvia Young’s Drama School, Teezy was also chosen by Roc Nations very own founder and global superstar, Jay Z, out of 500 young hopefuls to star as his ‘Mini Me’ on the ‘Hard Knock Life’ tour due to his outstanding performance skills and his phenomenal stage presence. During this successful promotional tour of the UK, Teezy and Jay Z appeared together on many music television shows. Over the years Teezy has been blessed to keep this relationship intact, which has led to Teezy hanging in the out with the likes of Beyoncé Knowles and Kelly Rowland on numerous occasions while they have been in the UK.

While Take Your Shoes Off and Tootsie Roll where being promoted, Teezy received close to 3 million views on his MySpace page and therefore was placed on MySpace’s Most Viewed Profiles Chart above Chipmunk, Ironik, Tinchy Stryder and even Fundamental (FDM) but unfortunately his MySpace page was mysteriously hacked and deleted late last year. Although this was a major setback for Teezy we are confident that after the release of his “Comeback” single he will once again be at the forefront of the conversations of thousands of admiring teenage fans around the UK and reclaim the seat as the original teenage heart-throb and once again be crowned “The Fresh Prince Of Hip-Hop”.

Don’t miss an EXCLUSIVE Trey Songz interview with Lynnike & Sefa on Tuesday’s Drivetime

Catch an exclusive telephone interview between Trey Songz and Lynnike & Sefa on Tuesday’s Drivetime 4-7pm on BANG 103.6FM

trey-songz-2-main

Trey Songz is one of those artists that those in the know in the UK have been championing since his 2005 debut, but due to his successful career performing, acting and producing fans here have only seen him once on these shores in a sell out show with J Holiday in 2009. UK fans have had to make do following him via his popular social networking platforms, whilst constantly demanding he come back to the UK.

trey-songz-1-main-2Since making his recording debut in 2005, Trey Songz has patiently and artfully crafted some of the most acclaimed and compelling R&B music of the decade. His first two Songbook Entertainment/Atlantic albums, I Gotta Make It (2005) and Trey Day (2007), yielded a trio of top ten singles, Girl Tonight, Last Time, and Can’t Help But Wait. And when the latter song garnered Trey a coveted Grammy nomination for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance, it marked the validation of the faith shown in Trey by the late Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun, who hailed him as one of “the most promising R&B artists we have had since we started the company 60 years ago.” Now, with the 2009 release of Ready, Trey Songz is more than ready to claim his place in the pantheon of R&B greats.
