Joe Lewis Thomas (born July 5, 1972), usually credited simply as Joe, is a seven-time Grammy Award-nominated American R&B singer and record producer.

joe-thomas-insideJoe’s extensive background in gospel music has allowed him to produce his albums as well as sing on them. Influenced early on by gospel stars like The Winans, Commissioned, and Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Joe grew to love soul legends Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye plus contemporary stars Bobby Brown and Keith Sweat.

While working in a gospel music store and singing in a church, Joe met producer Vincent Herbert and recorded a three-track demo. Joe released his debut album, Everything, in 1993. It spawned a number of hit singles, including the #10 R&B hit “I’m in Luv.” Joe signed with Jive Records for his 1997 album, All That I Am, which reached No. 13 on the Billboard 200 album charts and No. 4 on the R&B charts. All That I Am eventually went on to sell over a million copies in the U.S.

After recording for a staggering 11 years on Jive Records, Joe discovered a pattern of stalled promotions and adjusted radio play all linking to one man, R. Kelly. In 2007-2008, Joe left Jive Records and claimed that R. Kelly had been sabotaging his career while they were labelmates: “R. Kelly was very instrumental in making a lot of decisions when it came to my records being played on the radio.” “He would make a call to the radio station or to the label and say, ‘Hey, this Joe record is too hot right now. Y’all need to pull that back.’ And they would oblige.”Eventually, Joe signed with Kedar Massenburg’s Kedar Entertainment, and has released two albums on the label: September 2008’s Joe Thomas, New Man and July 2009’s Signature.

Quote:

“I feel like if you have a queen, you should treat her like a queen. I feel she doesn’t deserve anything less than that. If you make a promise for forever, you should keep it and hold up to it.” — Joe.
