Joe Lewis Thomas (born July 5, 1972), usually credited simply as Joe, is a seven-time Grammy Award-nominated American R&B singer and record producer.

joe-thomas-insideJoe’s extensive background in gospel music has allowed him to produce his albums as well as sing on them. Influenced early on by gospel stars like The Winans, Commissioned, and Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Joe grew to love soul legends Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye plus contemporary stars Bobby Brown and Keith Sweat.

While working in a gospel music store and singing in a church, Joe met producer Vincent Herbert and recorded a three-track demo. Joe released his debut album, Everything, in 1993. It spawned a number of hit singles, including the #10 R&B hit “I’m in Luv.” Joe signed with Jive Records for his 1997 album, All That I Am, which reached No. 13 on the Billboard 200 album charts and No. 4 on the R&B charts. All That I Am eventually went on to sell over a million copies in the U.S.

After recording for a staggering 11 years on Jive Records, Joe discovered a pattern of stalled promotions and adjusted radio play all linking to one man, R. Kelly. In 2007-2008, Joe left Jive Records and claimed that R. Kelly had been sabotaging his career while they were labelmates: “R. Kelly was very instrumental in making a lot of decisions when it came to my records being played on the radio.” “He would make a call to the radio station or to the label and say, ‘Hey, this Joe record is too hot right now. Y’all need to pull that back.’ And they would oblige.”Eventually, Joe signed with Kedar Massenburg’s Kedar Entertainment, and has released two albums on the label: September 2008’s Joe Thomas, New Man and July 2009’s Signature.

Quote:

“I feel like if you have a queen, you should treat her like a queen. I feel she doesn’t deserve anything less than that. If you make a promise for forever, you should keep it and hold up to it.” — Joe.

Filed under Features, Headlines, The Drum & Bass Show

Yo yo, Lady V back and ready to go!  Actually the full crew, including Devill and Micky Mafia are all fit and well this week, after all of us were poorly last week -  mainly due to continuously shouting ‘pull up’ to various D&B djs over the previous weekend to the point where our little throats just said ‘no’.  However, no rest for the wicked, as I fear that this may be happening again shortly as… WOW fabric have ANOTHER sick line-up planned for this Friday 30th October, take a look….

PLAYAZ…

DJ Hype 2 Hour Set

Andy C

Pascal

Shy FX

Break

Taxman

Potential Bad Boy

MCs IC3, GQ, Fats & A.D.

hype You know we can’t say no to a Playaz night, expect us in our usual corner, skanking our little hearts out!  But why don’t you join us too?? Yup, we like to make sure you are not stuck in at home on your lonesome on a Friday night, instead, educating yourself with the Drums and actually all-round pretty darn good music in Rooms 2 and 3…so, make sure you’re locked onto BANG Radio for the Drum & Bass Show TONIGHT, 12 - 2am for your chance to WIN a pair of tickets to Fabric this Friday. Don’t know if you’ve noticed but we just like to give - big tunes and tickets to the best events in D&B clubland, is how we do!

AND, THERE’S MORE!!

twitterYes, if you’re a regualar listener you’ll hear how much fun we have doing the show, and how whenever something funny happens we wish there was a camera in the studio…whether it’s Micky Mafia getting his D&B face on (it sneaks up, even sometimes surprising him!), Devill getting very excited and doing his running on the spot dance or me falling over as the bass made my booty skank way too close to the ground.  But we’ve found a solution! Tonight, we are actually going to fully embrace the web craze that is Twitter and twit-pic our show!  Yes, from start to finish so that YOU don’t miss out on any of the action…I guess there’s no pyjama casual garms for me tonight, as that’s like the past midnight crew like to roll.

All you’ve got to do to get involved (well, really just have a laugh at our expense) is follow LadyVDnB on Twitter, simple as;

http://twitter.com/ladyvdnb

and tweet us back! Gosh, isn’t this Twitter biz too cool - I know we’re a bit late on it, but someone’s ‘ahem’ (me) getting a bit addicted! Oh and BANG Radio have one too, which of course, I hope you’re following - get all over it!

The Drum and Bass show every Tuesday night, 12 - 2am…siiiickest and freshest upfront D&B, the ONLY WAY  to start your mid-week rave.

On Saturday the 31st of October things will be, “Up In Smoke!”

I will be chatting with U.S. Hip- Hip collective, “Deeprooted”

This will be a Halloween treat.

Deeprooted formed in 2004 by ex Battle Axe artist Mr Brady & local MC Johaz, later joined by producer DJ Artistic and singer / model Brea. Theyd then be joined on stage by Urban Dynamics Crew Dancers CeSe & Boosie, and earned the reputation as the hottest live act on the circuit

* Only artist to ever earn a straight 10 rating three years running at the renowned Urban Network Conferences, have picked up various local awards for their early recordings and been on the Vans Warped Tour 2004, 2005 & 2007

* Opened for Public Enemy, The Roots, Common, KRS-1, Lupe Fiasco, X Clan, Wu Tang, Kurtis Blow, Boot Camp Click & many others

deeprooted-inside

Like a mix between The Fugees and The Roots, their new album draws on the best influences of hiphop, soul and r&b with bang up to date contemporary production. CRAZY is a big bass heavy electronic joint, with Johaz & Mr Brady deliverin the rhymes, Brea producing the killer hook in the chorus. This has already been gettin hammered out Stateside.

Cali’s DEEPROOTED were formed in 2004 by ex Battle Axe artist Mr Brady and local San Diego rap artist Johaz, to be joined later by producer DJ Artistic and female vocalist Just Brea.

Moving out from the studio to take their brand of electro soul laced hiphop to the masses, they were joined on stage by San Diego’s Urban Dynamics Crew Dancers, CeSe and Boosie, and developed a reputation as one of the hottest tickets in town, a must see at every venue.

For 3 consecutive years from 2005, DEEPROOTED were picking up various awards for their initial recordings and live performances in San Diego, and their first Vans Warped Tour in 2004 resulted in being invited to rejoin the nationwide circuit in 2005 & 2007.

They remain the only artist to score a straight 10 outta 10 three years running at the renowned Urban Network Conferences, and have opened for Public Enemy, The Roots, Common, KRS-1, Lupe Fiasco, X Clan, Wu Tang, Kurtis Blow, The Boot Camp Click and many others.

In the studio they have collaborated with Diamond D, Blu, Killah Priest, Rock of Helta Skelta, Exile, Jake One, Rhettmatic, Planet Asia, Guilty Simpson, Abstract Rude and OHNO, some of whom appear on the new album. Theyve had music featured on X Box and Play Station video games, and enjoyed support from some of the hottest urban stations in the States, including Jammin Z90, Blazin 98.9, Jazz 88.3, KJLU 88.9 and Power 106.

They have still found the time to do voluntary charity work, helping raise money and awareness in relation to the genocide in Darfur, as well as several local youth initiatives in schools and colleges.

With two previous albums released independently, they have now teamed up with Clear Label Records, headed by Souls of Mischief’s Tajai Massey for the new album’s global release.

DEEPROOTED’s introduction to the UK comes via their self titled album which displays a range of styles drawing from the best of traditional hiphop values, soulful vibes & off the scale contemporary production. Physical release is pencilled in for early 2010

First single, CRAZY, is a big bass heavy slammin banger, with the mic gettin worked hard by the MCs and Just Brea providin the killer hook in the chorus. This track was getting hammered out by djs late summer, with the video on Flava, UrbanBass, Channel AKA and Brit Asia TV. Load of press coming as part of the coverage.

As a follow up, the new single CELEBRATE b/w FADE, is out 9th November and the videos have already been supported by Flava and Urban Bass TV where they are featured artists. Single only just recently serviced out to djs, but already the djs are jumpin on these guys. Theyve set down strong foundations here in the UK with their sound, with appreciation across the board for their mix of soul, hiphop, r&b and quality rhyme skillz.
