Presenter Focus: D’nyce

When 2nd DAN (Mu-gen-do) kick-boxer, d’nyce hit the scene she became a prime mover on the urban music scene that has heavily influenced hers  and the lives of so many others in the same scene.

Her early musical influences were The Jackson Five, Slave, Cameo, Aswad, Jean Adebambo (R.I.P), Carol Thompson, Errol Dunkley, Burning Spear alongside Duran Duran, Haircut 100 and Imagination.

Being one of the youngest (and the only girl) in a family of five, opened up many musical doors. The first record she bought was Walking The Line by Central Line back in the 1980’s and she has been collecting music ever since.

By 2000 d’nyce had played major nights at Café de Paris, Cobden Club, Jus Dancin’, Raw, SoundShaft, The London Metropole Hotel (International Women’s Month), The MOBO Awards (2000, 2001) and the Met Bar (London Fashion Week 1999), supporting Phoebe One on tour with Redman & Method man on their UK tour 2005.

Things got interesting when d’nyce was given her first show on Street FM, a small NW London ‘community’ radio station. Considering she had never attempted radio before she impressed them so much that within a month she gained her second show and her name began to take root.

A holiday to Cyprus, Ayia Napa brought a surprise twist of fate which opened a few doors. “It was in this year that I met Mike Anthony and Treble T from Rampage. I met Treble T in Club Black and White and I advised him to play a different tune than the one he was going to play at the time, anyway it so happens that they were looking for a female DJ to bring into the family and I became that DJ”

Currently D’Nyce presents the Soul-D-Out Thursday 7pm-9pm on BANG Radio 103.6 FM d’nyce specialises in signed and unsigned soul artists from around the world. “Radio is my passion and something that I’m actively pursuing”.

D’nyce also promotes a live music night called Soul-D-Out. Soul-D-Out (the live music series) is a bi-monthly evening of live uncut raw soul music designed specifically to showcase and promote the outstanding talents of independent homegrown UK & international neo-soul, RnB & Jazz artists to the UK underground and mainstream.

Soul-D-Out aims to provide all performing artists a platform where they can promote themselves and gain all the necessary exposure possible through this event, which will hopefully propel them onto bigger things.

Gig Aid with Gus Hall

Sarah Pemberton will be joining Gus Hall on the Keepin It Movin Show on Saturday 28th February 2009 between 12-2pm. Sarah will be talking about her Gig Aid live showcasing events.

Gig Aid is a non-profit social enterprise with a threefold purpose:

  • Promoting talented unsigned and emerging music artistes
  • Advance the live music-gigging culture in the UK
  • Raising awareness and funds for charitable causes.

So far, Gig Aid has organised five gigs at leading London venues, promoted 19 emerging artistes and bands and supported five worthy charities.

Gig Aid is significantly different from events such as Live Aid or Band Aid in that our focus is not on large-scale, one-off charity concerts by famous artistes, but on regular gigs that can promote emerging musical talent in the UK, whilst raising awareness and funds for specific (and sometimes under-represented) charitable causes.

For more information  see Gig Aid

The next Gig Aid is in March and will be showcasing the best unsigned and emerging RnB artists.  One of the performers on the night will be Anne-Marie, a soulful songstress from NW London. Her amazingly unique voice sets her aside from other soul songstresses.

Anne-Marie

Anne-Marie

Aged just 23, she has already lit up stages such as the Jazz cafe, Shepherds Bush Empire and Cargo, supporting UK Popsoul star Lee Henry.

Ann Marie Lataille is now working on a range of projects including her solo album. Look out for her cameo appearance in the forthcoming Tru Menace release I’m on Fire single.

Both Ann-Marie and Sarah will be joining Gus hall and the Keepin It Movin team on Saturday 28th February 2009.

Making An Entrance

February 27, 2009 by AJ King
Filed under AJ King, BANG Radio News

Ok people, this is my first blog EVER, so be easy on me!

Over the next few weeks I’ll be posting highlights of the shenanigans and organised madness which my life consists of. I take my work VERY seriously, so if you see me out and about taking photos of, or involved in something utterly absurd, know that it’s for the benefit of this here blog!

That said, what if I’m really tired, and I can’t be bothered to write anything, do I get the sack? What if nobody really cares what I get up to? What if it  snows again (and continues to do so relentlessly) and I have to become a professional snowballer? I’ll have no time for blogging!!!!

It’s all about focus. I need to GET-IN-THE-ZONE… Ok… ok… MI DEYAH!… I mean, “I’M THERE!”

technicolour-dude-smallI think the main thing is to make a good first impression, and a good entrance certainly helps.

I was strolling down Carnaby Street on Tuesday evening and saw a gentleman who further cemented this belief in my mind.

Looking like a modern day Joseph (complete with technicolour dreamcoat and some fresssh Air Forces) he was on route to a Levi’s party down the road and judging by his outfit was determined to ‘make an entrance’.

Save your mockery though. Turns out THIS fashionista is a designer for Nike (I swear!)

So after pointing out my excluuuuusive perforated Dunks we exchanged pleasantries and went our separate ways.

.

Now, some people take making an entrance to A-N-O-T-H-E-R level. The following clip is an example of how best to capitalise on your inner star whilst letting everyone know that you’re “IN THE BUILDING!!!”

So peeps, the next time you enter a room, meeting or even get on the tube, ask yourself, ‘am I in the building? or am I IN-THE-BUILDING????”

Till next time peeps, Pie-ce!

Krome Meets the Crazy Girls

February 26, 2009 by Online Editor
Filed under Don't Miss, Drive Time, Lynnike & Sefa

Catch Krome, winner of UK Unsigned 2008, live on BANG Radio with Lynnike & Sefa on Thursday 26th February between 4-7pm

Very few rappers in the UK stand out amongst the ever growing new generation of British rap acts. But every now and again someone like Krome steps into the spotlight to make everybody listen with intrigue.

As an up and coming UK artist Krome is a positive example of a young man choosing music as a way of life. Overcoming the hard struggle of being on the streets, Krome employs strong lyricism to express himself through his music. As a conscious rapper and producer he sets a positive example and as  a role model, uses his music to promote positive messages.

Previously signed to Whoa Records for 2 years where he put out the single South Crunk, Krome was forced to leave the label and is in the process of starting his own label, The Outfit. He felt that Whoa Records was not pushing his material hard enough.  Not one to simply sit down and lament his misfortune or blame the hand he was dealt, Krome decided to make the brave move of going it alone.

At BANG Radio we salute Krome’s entrepreneurial spirit and welcome him to the studio to talk about the journey so far.

Catch him on Thursday 26th February with the Crazy Girls, Lynnike & Sefa
